#BalanceforBetter is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day: let’s join forces to build a gender balanced world…
International Women’s Day (IWD) has taken place for well over a century now, with the first IWD gathering in 1911. It’s a global day to acknowledge the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
On 8 March 2019, individuals, governments, NGOs, charities and academic institutions across the globe will come together to celebrate women and call for gender parity, as gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.
Although International Women’s Day is a one-day event, the #BalanceforBetter campaign will be running all year.
How can you get involved?
Follow @womensday on Twitter and post your #IWD2019 message on social media with your "hands out" balance pose for a strong call-to-action for others to also help forge a #BalanceforBetter.
You can also order your own International Women’s Day event pack. Whether you're a company, government, professional group, charity, hospital, library, retail outlet, community service provider, university or school - these event packs provide useful resources for any IWD marketing and events.
Or if all else fails, simply wear something purple or green to show your support. Purple signifies justice and dignity, while green symbolises hope.
