In April, this year, a hundred runners attempted to set world records at the London Marathon, with the Guinness World Records team on hand to verify the results. 30 new records were set, and the record runners also raised a total of over £250,000 for UK charities.
Record-breaking is a great way to raise awareness for a cause, as it tends to get more media attention and from that, more donations - something to keep in mind for next year's marathon, runners!
Susie Hewer, champion for Alzheimer’s Research UK and Guinness World Record Holder for longest crochet chain whilst running a marathon said: “I firmly believe that attempting to break a Guinness World Record helps draw attention to charities."
The record runners who raised the most money for charity were the ‘Huddersfield Marathon Band’, who finished in 6 hours 56 minutes, helping to raise nearly £60k for Sense.
