Monday 18 January is predicted to be the most depressing day of the year - Blue Monday. It is dark. It is cold. Party season is over, and credit card bill season has begun. We are beginning to feel our winter coats have been permanently welded to our bodies, and the sky will never again be any other colour than pigeon-grey. Some of us have even already broken our carefully-made New Year's Resolutions (for tips on how to keep them, read here).
But Mental Health Research UK (MHRUK) have a solution to beat the blues, which is super simple, and super fun. This Monday, wear your brightest colours into work, and create a rainbow with your friends and workmates.
Trustee of MHRUK, Dr Laura Davidson, said: “On 18 January 2016, we invite everyone to join our Blooming Monday campaign and make a big visual impact by injecting some unexpected colour and joy into the day. It’s a simple ask: that everyone wears their brightest clothes on one of the dullest days of the year. Even if you have to wear formal clothes to work, you can at least wear a bright tie or scarf or even socks for a change, and bring a smile to someone’s face."
MHRUK is a charity that raises money to go towards research into the causes and of and treatments for mental illness. If you choose to brighten up this Monday, you can make a voluntary donation by by texting BLOO22 £2 to 70070, and help raise funds for research into depression and other mental illnesses.
