Give to Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK in your Legacy
Leaving a gift to Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK in your will is another great way to support our campaigns to defend marine wildlife and habitats for our future generations!
CPWF UK campaigns with our unique direct action frontline work relies entirely on the support of individuals like you to fund our work to defend the ocean and marine wildlife.
Thank you so much for thinking about CPWF UK in your legacy planning!
There are two main ways to support CPWF UK through your will:
- A ‘Residuary Gift’: Your residuary estate is what is left over of your Estate after your Executors have paid any debts and other expenses such as funeral costs, inheritance tax etc. and paid pecuniary and specific legacies. A gift of the whole or a share of your residuary estate is called a “residuary gift”. You can leave a residuary gift of the whole of your residuary estate to CPWF UK in your Will, or just a small percentage.
A Suggested wording for a residuary gift to CPWF UK is:
I GIVE to the charity ‘Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK’, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity (Charity Commission registered number: 1110501) of registered office address: 27 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AX [all] [x%] (delete which does not apply) of my residuary estate after payment of all debts, funeral, testamentary and administration expenses and legacies contained in my Will and any codicil to it, for its general charitable purposes AND DIRECT that the receipt in writing of the person who professes to be the treasurer or other proper officer of the charity shall be a full discharge to my executors and trustees AND PROVIDED THAT if before my death (or after my death but before my executors and trustees have given effect to the gift) the charity has changed its name or amalgamated with any other charity then my executors and trustees shall give effect to the gift as if it were a gift to the charity in its changed name or to the charity which results from the amalgamation or to the charity to which the assets have been transferred.
- A ‘Pecuniary Legacy’: This is a straight forward gift of a sum of money though you may wish to consider index-linking the legacy because as time passes the actual value becomes less.
A suggested wording for a pecuniary legacy to CPWF UK is:
I GIVE to the charity ‘Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK’, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity (Charity Commission registered number: 1110501) of registered office address: 27 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AX the sum of _____________pounds (£_______) to be applied for its general charitable purposes AND DIRECT that the receipt in writing of the person who professes to be treasurer or other proper officer of the charity shall be a full discharge to my executors and trustees for the legacy given AND PROVIDED THAT if before my death (or after my death but before my executors and trustees have given effect to the gift) the charity has changed its name or amalgamated with any other charity then my executors and trustees shall give effect to the gift as if it were a gift to the charity in its changed name or to the charity which results from the amalgamation or to the charity to which the assets have been transferred.
Although it is not necessary to use a solicitor to draft your Will, we do recommend that careful consideration is given to using one. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to call us on 0300 111 0501 or email our team on: info@cpwf.org.uk
