Dramatic effects from teaching values
Date Posted: 03 Mar 2013
After using the "EDUCATION in HUMAN VALUES" programme since April 2012, a primary school in "Special Measures" since January 2012 received very encouraging comments from school inspectors and reported that:
- They had introduced the "Silent Sitting" lesson component once a day to calm the children's minds and allow time to themselves. "This has had a positive impact on behaviour and the children enjoy it."
- They involved the whold school in the programme. "The use of the materials and our staff commitment to teaching and modelling these values has had a dramatic effect on the school. Our pupils are becoming more able to discuss the key values - and more importantly - relate them to their own lives and the impact we have on others."
The values education programmes published by the Human Values Foundation provide schools with practical, engaging, effective resources that develop a bedrock of positive values that help schools fulfil National Curriculum aims of enabling all young people to become:
- successful learners - who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
- confident individuals - who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
- responsible citizens - who make a positive contribution to society.
